The Lilly Pulitzer Story
In 1959, Lilly Pulitzer, a 21-year-old opened a juice stand in the shadow of her husband's citrus grove. To mask the juice stains on her clothing, she had a sleeveless dress made from colorful-printed cotton.

Before long, Lilly found herself selling more dresses than juice. She founded Lilly Pulitzer, Inc. which now produces clothing and other such wares featuring bright, colorful, floral prints.

The ''classic shift dress'' shot to international fame and demand when Lilly's old schoolmate Jacqueline Kennedy née Bouvier, now the First Lady, was photographed wearing a ''Lilly'' while on vacation. ''Jackie wore one of my dresses – it was made from kitchen curtain material – and people went crazy. They took off like zingo. Everybody loved them, and I went into the dress business.'' – Essentially Lilly, A Guide to Colorful Entertaining The Lilly Pulitzer team finds inspiration in their designs everywhere. From traveling to Palm Beach, visiting museums, strolling through gardens and spending days on the beach...the print team is constantly exploring and painting.
