The Department of Labor has hired hundreds of additional auditors to go into the private sector to uncover potential violations of current wage and hour laws.  There are not 50% more federal wage and hour investigators than in 2008.  These audits are focusing in three (3) main areas of potential non-compliance:

1. Are employers properly classifying workers as either Exempt (salaried), Non-exempt (hourly) or Independent     Contractor?
2. Are employers making improper deductions from employees pay that violate the Fair Labor Standards Act?
3. Are working hours being accurately tracked and recorded in a way that provides a proper audit trail of actual hours worked?
